Legal Assistance
The VAHCCF
hosts a legal aid clinic once a month that
provides services in Spanish to the community.
The clinic will be expanding to twice a week in
the near future to handle the high demand for
this service from the community. The Williams
Mullen Law Firm and the Legal Aid Justice Center
offer services to the Hispanic community through
the VAHCCF’s legal aid clinic. The
VAHCCF provides translation and technical
assistance throughout this process. Services
offered through this clinic include:
-
Immigration issues and
immigrant rights issues
-
Tax issues /
assistance
-
Worker’s compensation
claims and issues
-
Payroll issues (not
being paid at all, being paid with non-valid
checks, etc.)
Loan Program
The VHCCF established the Community
Express loan program that assists minority,
women and veteran owned small businesses with
the application process for funding in low to
moderate income areas. The applicants must have
a legal presence in the U.S., must have their
business registered with the Virginia State
Corporation Commission, and must have the
appropriate business license. This loan program
promotes the Hispanic community working with a
lender to start and/or further their efforts in
business. A majority of the applicants are
non-English speaking and the VHCCF
provides translation for the entire process from
filling out the application to working with the
bank. The VAHCCF provides technical
assistance to the applicants in Spanish and
works with the bank directly throughout the
process. Furthermore, the Community Express Loan
program is offered once a month through the
VAHCCF.
Employment
The VAHCCF has created a bi-lingual job
placement database. This database is available
in English and Spanish and is provided at no
charge to the community (both to the job
placement organizations and to the job seekers).
Information and
Referral Service
The VAHCCF in collaboration with the
United Way of Greater Richmond and Petersburg
offers Walk-In Information & Referral bilingual
services.
The VAHCCF has created a tracking system
for referrals. Once a client calls or comes to
the VAHCCF, they are entered into a
database and tracked through a referral to the
appropriate resource. We are the bridge between
the client and the service provider. We provide
assistance at every step of the process from the
first telephone call or walk-in, to the follow
up to see how the client has progressed. This
service is available to anyone in the community
and is offered in English and Spanish.
Education
The VAHCCF has scheduled free seminars
held in both English and Spanish in the
following areas to assist the Hispanic
