Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce
Announces Partnership with Anthem BlueCross BlueShield
to Enroll Latino Virginians Under the Affordable Care Act
Hispanic Health Initiative aims to help enroll thousands of Latinos
Consequently, VAHCC and Anthem BlueCross BlueShield have taken the lead in promoting enrollment to this underserved population through partnerships with grassroots organizations, health educators, and the faith community to inform and educate Latino families, in a Spanish-language environment.
Events scheduled for the Richmond region include:
Weekly informational and enrollment activities at the VAHCC Richmond Headquarters, 10700 Midlothian Turnpike Suite 200, Richmond VA 23235, on Mondays, January 12th, January 26th, February 2nd, and February 9th, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Trained health promoters will be on-site to answer questions, provide information, and make enrollment appointments.
Town Hall Event and Health Fair in partnership with Telemundo, at the Sacred Heat Center, 1400 Perry Street, Richmond VA 23224, Saturday, January 17th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. A panel of specialists will provide information and answer questions regarding the ACA, enrollment, and preventative care. Enrollment specialists and independent brokers will be on-site to enroll attendees in qualified health plans on the Federal Marketplace. Community organizations and service providers will have informational displays and booths.
“We are excited to be working with Anthem BlueCross BlueShield on this initiative to make sure the Latino community and their families have adequate insurance to meet their healthcare needs,” says Michel Zajur, president of the Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. “The Hispanic community is one of the largest populations that continues to go uninsured, despite being eligible for the Federal Marketplace.”
“The Hispanic Health Initiative aims to reduce disparities faced by many in the Latino Community by facilitating access to healthcare services,” says Luis Javier Hernandez, Business Development Manager with Anthem BlueCross BlueShield’s Hispanic Health Initiative. “We want to provide Latino Virginias with valuable information so they can make an informed decision and enroll in a health plan by February 15th."
The VAHCC Richmond Headquarters is open weekdays; trained Health Promoters will be on-hand to provide more information during business hours. For more information, call 804-378-4099, visit www.vahcc.com; to reach Anthem, call 866-777-1225 or visit www.SaludConAnthem.com.
