We adjourned to the Grand Ballroom for the Awards Luncheon to recognize and celebrate 10 Hispanic Leaders in our Virginia community and to hear from some amazing people. First, Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry, Basil I. Gooden, said a few words about the necessity of diversity and recognition of minorities in our farming and forestry industries. Then, we had the great honor to hear from Anna Cabral, former U.S. Treasurer. She shared with us her story, where she came from and how she got to where she is. She reminded us that when we do great things in life it is in honor of our forefathers' sacrifices. Last but definitely not least, we announced and applauded the outstanding individuals that received the VAHCC's 2016 Impacto Latino Award. Congratulations to Aida Pacheco, Anthony Mijares, Carlos Castro, Carlos Del Toro, Fernando Gamboa, Jackie Krick, Jaime Areizaga-Soto, Marina Amat, Mike Martinez and Morena Phillips!
Following the VAHCC Business Conference was the Hispanic Gala at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Oh what a night! From the Día de los Muertos decorations to the music to the food, guests enjoyed a night of celebrating the wonderful contributions of the Hispanic Community. We had the opportunity to hear from two young ladies that participated in the Pasaporte a la Educación program and how it impacted their lives. Then, Tony Jimenez, CEO of MicroTech, was honored with the 2016 Hispanic Bridge Builder of the Year Award. He took a moment to share with us his story and what motivates him to make a difference in how successful businesses are run while recognizing the powerful impact the Hispa nic community makes in the business world. We rounded out the evening with an action packed Live Auction, a performance from Latin Ballet of Virginia and dancing to the music of Ban Caribe.
This year's VAHCC Business Conference and Hispanic Gala were huge successes. They would not have been possible without the contributions of so many, from our Hispanic leaders, panelists and speakers to the staff and volunteers of the VAHCC. We give a huge thank you to all those who participated in anyway to make the Business Conference and Gala an event not to be missed.
