Tysons Corner, VA: The Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (VAHCC) Leadership Council met with Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade Jim Cheng in Senator Mark Warner's Office at the Towers Crescent Tysons Corner. Topics discussed include procurement opportunities with the State of Virginia, and how to extend those opportunities to Hispanic/Latino-owned companies. Also joining the meeting was Jimmy Rhee, who serves as Assistant Secretary of Commerce and Trade for International Trade and Investment Activities. The VAHCC is eager to expand its international membership by linking foreign companies with the resources in Virginia to help them invest here, as well as help Virginia companies export.
Following the meeting was a luncheon at the Tower Club with the Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Leadership Council members, and VAHCC members from Northern Virginia. Secretary Cheng addressed the crowd and reinforced the Governor's initiatives and successes in job creation, as well as shared information about procurement opportunities. Assistant Secretary Rhee informed those present of the
resources available to Companies wishing to export, as well as initiatives in foreign investment.
The Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Leadership Council was formed in fall of 2010 to focus the efforts of leaders from Virginia's Hispanic Community to advance the interests of Virginia's Hispanics/Latinos, and , and currently has six members, all leaders in their fields committed to giving back to the Hispanic Community. They include Dario Marquez, CEO of MVM, Tony Jimenez, CEO of MicroTech, Joe Travez, CEO of ProtoProd, Lynette Spano, CEO of SCI Consulting, Jorge Haddock, Dean of the George Mason University School of Management, Jose "Pepe" Figeuroa, CEO of Priority One Services, and Michel Zajur, VAHCC CEO and President.
