Job Summary:
·
This role monitors emerging accounting and financial reporting
issues, evaluates implications of developments and advises senior management
·
Analyzes impact of proposed changes to accounting standards and
regulations.
·
Develops company position on proposals and communicate to
standard-setting/regulatory organizations
·
Serves as consultant to operating companies/business unit
controllers regarding financial implications of proposed or new transactions,
including development of accounting guidelines and controls to ensure
transactions are in accordance with GAAP, SEC and other regulatory guidelines
·
Coordinates implementation of new accounting and financial
reporting requirements to ensure consistent application throughout the
organization
·
Performs quality assurance reviews of financial statements and
reports
·
Serves as advocate of company accounting policy and practices
before external parties
·
Serves as advisor to internal organization
·
May act as team lead on implementation of accounting and financial
reporting requirements
This
role is a high visibility position with excellent growth potential and is
responsible for more complex activities associated with monitoring,
interpreting and applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) such
as SFAS 133 and FAS167.
Position Responsibilities/Duties:

Monitor and analyze emerging market activities and trends,
including effects of proposed changes to accounting standards and
interpretations, and advise management of the potential implications
·
Serve as advisor/consultant to support segment controllers and
their staffs with application of accounting requirements such as SFAS 133
andFAS167 to complex transactions
·
Coordinate implementation of new requirements and development and
maintenance of accounting and reporting policies and procedures
·
Research accounting issues, identify alternatives and provide
recommendations to management
Knowledge, Skills,
& Abilities:
·
At least 5-7 years Accounting experience
·
Experience as a Audit Manager for a Big 4 firm preferred
·
Energy industry experience and Big 4 public accounting experience
preferred.
·
CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
·
Broad knowledge of GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
·
Working knowledge of derivatives and SFAS 133 preferred.
·
Ability to manage projects/tasks independently, including
confidence in one’s own capacity to develop interpretive conclusions and to
make decisions and recommendations.
·
Creative analytical skills with ability to anticipate, identify
and resolve complex accounting issues.
·
Effective communication skills, including ability to convey
complex concepts to various audiences.
·
Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and demanding business
environment. Develop supervisory
skills to schedule
Certifications: CPA preferred
Education: Strongly Preferred:
Bachelors in Accounting (Preferred: Masters in Accounting)
